Sonny Naicker

Every month we feature an insight into one of our staff members lives to learn a little more about the people that make up the Ian Dickie Team. This month we interview Sonny Naicker

As Workshop Manager and Equity Committee member at our Durban branch, Sonny is an integral and valued member of the Ian Dickie team.

After completing a Boiler Making course in 1986, Sonny went on to further his studies and pursue his passion for mechanics at the Natal Training Centre, qualifying as a Motor Mechanic in1993 (Trade tested at Olifantsfontein).
Sonny’s first formal work experience was as a Trainee Mechanic at Shepstone Road Motors and then later at Redline Motors, where his talent and work ethic were recognized and rewarded with a promotion to Workshop Foreman, a position he held until he joined Ian Dickie 17 years ago.

When not at work Sonny enjoys spending quality time with his family as well as pursuing a host of other interests and hobbies, including breeding various bird species, fishing, building and being creative in other trades and as one might have guessed, indulging in his serious passion for old school cars.

Something that perhaps not everyone knows is that Sonny is also quite accomplished in a host of other trades, having over the years gained the knowledge, skills and experience to be proficient in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, building and tiling.

When asked his thoughts on milestones, people or events that have had a lasting influence on him during his time at Ian Dickie, Sonny fondly recalls his late Manager, Cobi Grobler, who mentored him at work and inspired him to grow within our company. A milestone that also influenced Sonny significantly was attending the Ian Dickie 50th Anniversary celebrations at Spier in Cape Town in 2012, where our staff had the rare opportunity to meet and celebrate with their colleagues and counterparts from all around the country.

Looking to the future, Sonny says:
“I believe that we have highly skilled and experienced sales team throughout Ian Dickie that will be able to ensure the standards and quality of our equipment will be upheld, Ian Dickie always strives towards customer satisfaction. In future Ian dickie will continue to advance their technology and rise to each new challenge as we always have.”

In closing, we would sincerely like to thank Sonny for these interesting insights and commend him on his contribution and loyalty to the Ian Dickie brand. We are proud to count him as a valued member of the Ian Dickie “work family” and wish him and his family everything of the best for the future.
